Dave Matthews Band: The Road to Big Whiskey Vol. 1
June 22nd 2009 20:30
The documentary started with the band headed out to play a live show; appropriate considering that is what the band is known for. The first half of the documentary is spent introducing the members of the band: Boyd Tinsley on violin, Tim Reynolds on guitar, Carter Beauford on drums, Steffan Lessard on bass, and new members Jeff Coffin and Rashawn Ross on saxophone and trumpet, respectively. The band members were described in the context of what they do and bring to the band's live performances.
The second part of the first volume discusses the reinvigorated band's making of their new CD, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave discusses how the band was drifting apart and really came together for this album. A lot of the credit went to Leroi Moore, the former saxophonist who died in a tragic snowmobile accident in August of 2008. The band used him as inspiration and laid his recordings on the CD as well. Tinsley thinks the album is written in the same way as Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash, arguably their two best albums.
