I, Robot and Sharon Stone

I, Robot

I liked this movie, just as I liked the dark, sci-fi film noir movie, Bladerunner. I, Robot is a more hopeful possible glimpse of the future.

Will Smith is the detective in this film. His charisma contribution to this film is enormous. As his character, Detective Spooner, searches for answers in a possible crime, the character discovers much about himself.

In this movie, the future has a lot more people of different colors playing different parts, and I found that refreshing.

Product placement, so important to underwriting the cost of movies and television programs these days, is humorously blatant, which took off some of the stigma for me.

Bridget Moynihan is Dr. Calvin, and the film’s director reveals her character’s beauty, and humanity, as the film progresses.

The film is supposed to both loosely based on a series of Isaac Asimov stories and an original screenplay by An interview with the screenwriter is available at Screenwriters Utopia

While I enjoy the work of Frank Herbert, Harlan Ellison and Ray Bradbury, among others, I have never been able to finish a book by Mr. Asimov. His books always lacked something for me, although I enjoyed his articles, interviews and ideas.

Fans of Mr. Asimov may say that the film is not faithful to his stories, but for me, that does not diminish enjoyment of this movie.

There are some inconsistencies, but, aren’t there always? Why, for example, is a beautiful house, filled with valuable possessions, going to be casually destroyed at a certain point in the movie?

The way the future is shown in films is mimicked in so many ways by science in later years- do scientists, as children, find dreams and goals from their childhoods that inspire future invention?

ON ANOTHER NOTE you may have heard some scandalous talk about Sharon Stone “scolding” the German public. Oh dear. Actually, Ms. Stone was helping at an auction, something she has done for years, and made the remarks, followed by a sexy purr, and received delighted applause from the audience. You can see a clip at this link, at ifilm ifilm

Enjoy....
