Sir Leigh Teabing: If it's that important to stop us, you'll have to shoot us.

Sir Leigh Teabing: You can start with him.
Ron Howard has made an enjoyable, well-crafted movie out of one of the most controversial books published in years. It is suspenseful (and I read the book twice), respectful of all perspectives on religion, and enjoyable as a murder/mystery. It is not an attempt to destroy any one's religion, nor is it an apology to any organized faith, glossing over possible human errors, or sins, committed in the name of God.
It's a Hitchcock worthy race across countries to stop a murderer, or murderers, before they kill again, and get what Hitchcock used to call the McGuffin (Labyrinth.net.au): the thing that is the point of the movie.
At least one reviewer has pointed out that JFK, directed by Oliver Stone, was a good movie. Whether or not the conspiracy theory of assisination is correct, the movie is good story telling.
All the performances are credible, with Ian McKellen perhaps standing out a bit, which may be due to his character's charming flamboyance (and his fun with portraying it).
The music is worthy of listening to separatly on an album/cd/mp3.
Tom Hanks has the difficult task of making the lead, who disrupts, and explains, so much of the author's much attacked theory, plausible. And he does so. One really wouldn't expect less of a man whose range goes from Forrest Gump to the professional killer of Road To Perdition.
When the discourse about the religious theories settles down, this movie will probably be a mystery classic.

I enjoyed the movie, but, as I said, the ideas
put forward in it didn't bother me. I wondered,
after I wrote the review, if, in fact, this movie will become
a classic, like Rear Window or Notorious. Only time will tell.
I thought it very smooth and fun. We'll just have to
wait and see.
